History
Dear guest of Predio Son Serra,
the following is some information about the history of the finca.
As early as prehistoric times Talayots existed in this place. You can find
remains of these buildings near the stables and the horse riding court. At
the end of the 18th century the main house was built. It was used by nuns as
a kind of school for practical work like knitting, sewing and cooking. The
sisters lived from charity.
Later on the finca was acquired by the Mesquida family.
It was used as a hunting lodge for large guest parties
(partridges and rabbits were hunted). The family still owns a lot of the
neighbouring land. Their country
estate is situated at the border of the finca Predio
Son Serra and is called "Son Pradera".
In 1978 the finca was bought and for the first years was used as a
restaurant with Mallorquin food for groups. In 1984 the finca was enlarged.
The rooms and the swimming pool were built at the places where old buildings
once stood. In 1998 the finca and all the rooms were completely renovated
and equipped with central heating and air-conditioning.
The name "Serra" means "saw" in Catalan. A "Predio" is a part of a country
estate. It was given this name because of the forestry activities in this area.
The manager Dieter Suessmann, Hotel- and Touristmanager, is leading the
finca since conducting 1980.
With best wishes
Dieter Suessmann Manager
