Surroundings Nationalpark
S'Albufera
Only
5 km from the finca your will find thie superb Nationalpark. The park is
located right at one of Ca´n Picafort, in the centre of the Bay of Alcudia.
Its extension is of 1.708,75 hectares with a coastline of 1,45 Km. (beach
and dunes).
It is an area of special protection for the birds. Until today more than 200
species of birds have been observed. The mammals are of small size. The
vegetation is less varied, the most exceptional plant being the grass orchid.
Historically 'La Albufera' was probably well
known and used since prehistoric times. There is also evidence of Arab
farmhouses in the area. The name "S´Albufera" is of Arab origin, "Albuhayra"
meaning lagoon. We have many testimonies of medieval times, after the
Catalan conquest, that tell us about the use of 'La Albufera' for hunting
and fishing, generally reserved for the King and the nobility.
From C'an Picafort, you can visit the Park by bicycle since the road has a
special lane for bicycles. However, it is also possible to make this trip
using tracks through the interior of the Park.
Las Gaviotas and Platja de Muro
La
Platja de Muro occupies 5.5 km of Muro´s coastline. It is made up of dunes
with low vegetation and pines and forms part of the 8.5km-long beach which
runs along the Bay of Alcúdia, starting at Can Picafort and ending at Port
d´Alcúdia, with the wetlands of Albufera Gran de Mallorca behind. Some
sections are developed - with hotels, apartments and houses - creating a
low-rise tourist zone that has all the necessary services to enjoy holidays
with family or friends. To reach the beach, take the road C-712 that joins
Port d´Alcúdia with Artà, and you´ll come to it before Can Picafort. A large
section of the beach is completely unspoilt, with a pine-shaded zone between
the dunes with benches and tables for eating. The beach has an abundance of
fine white sand.
Services: at the developed areas there are bars
and restaurants, as well as sun loungers and parasols for rent.
C'an Picafort
Ca'n
Picafort is a tourist area with an important offer of accommodation,
basically of beachside hotels. Contrary to many of the resorts on the island,
it is not only a holiday resort. C'an Picafort is, additionally, a village
with the peculiarities and the normal life of a small coastal town. Its
history is documented since 1860, its centre being the oldest one, with its
simple houses with wide terraces, that grew starting at the jetty, where
nowadays the marina is located. The distance to Palma is 54 Km, half of which
is a motorway, crossing the whole island right through its middle.
Located
in the Northwest of the island of Mallorca, in the very centre of the Bay of
Alcudia, the biggest bay of the Balearics, with 17 kilometres of beach.
Preserved areas of woods extend towards the east, with only two small
villages and hardly any tourist development. At this end of the bay is Cap
Farrutx, one of the most beautiful areas of the island, with cliffs and
pinegroves of difficult access by car, but not by boat or hiking.
